I like these intriguing b&w pics. The whole site is in fact a mystery. Where are the pics taken … is there something Nordic about them. Some words on posters in Swedish … The game is afoot, dear Watson …
most of the pictures were taken in Sweden, some in England and Denmark.
… yeah, I guessed that. But I forgot to write that this is a great site. I really like these mysterious b&ws.
anon: thanks! Like your pictures as well.
Could you elaborate on what makes photos ‘Nordic’?
good question … and difficult to answer. Of course I recognized various Copenhagen localities along the way. But even before I saw them, and even before I noticed the Danish and Swedish words on the signposts, I had a distinct impression of “Nordic-ness”. Which, I guess, might have something to do with your handling of light and of the b&w format, but probably first and foremost comes from the motives themselves: the characteristic redbrick buildings, the cobbled streets that your are so fond of, etc. 0028065.html and 002805.html are good examples of this, I think.
The cobbled streets &c: I’m going through a rather immobile phase of my life at the moment (three young children) which means very little travelling outside of my hometown (Lund), so not many opportunities for more exotic locales to show up in my pictures. Also, I spend a lot of time with the kids outside (paternity leave), so there are many opportunities to use the camera.
You, on the other hand (I’ve been clicking through your photoblog, which I find very interesting) seems more mobile/globalized. But you are based somewhere. Let’s guess: Bergen?
… bergen, yup. I saw your footsteps on my homepage yesterday. So I guess I am not “anon” anymore …
